The Association of Paint and Printing Ink Manufacturers (VVVF) is once again sounding the alarm about the shortage of raw materials in the paint industry, among others. At the beginning of this year she estimated that the valley had already been reached, but now the VVVF reports that the scarcity has become even greater in recent weeks.

"Old hands in the paint, printing ink, adhesive and sealant industry speak of an unparalleled shortage that has not occurred for decades," reads a press release. "Entrepreneurs spend whole days looking for available raw materials to ensure the continuity of their production."

The industry association blames the problem on the corona virus, which "pushed the brakes hard, which has a devastating effect on the global economy." Although global activity has started again, the effect of the severely disrupted supply chain is lagging behind.

Transport from overseas areas is very uncertain. Due to the enormous shortage in sea containers, prices have risen alarmingly. According to the VVVF, visibility of the transport is not always there either. "With an order from the Far East, it was reported that the materials had been shipped, but the Asian company had no idea where the ship was."

As the trade association also stated at the beginning of February, a 'force majeure' is imminent: companies in the paint, printing ink, adhesive and sealant industry that can no longer meet demand.
